A Senior Technical Consultant at Norkom:

·         Supports/directs the Norkom project team by documenting technical architecture and data management requirements captured during client meetings

·         Supports/directs the client organization during interface design and data mapping.

·         creates the Norkom development environment mirroring the hardware and software stack to be used on client site

·         is responsible for the definition and implementation of best practices for technical processes

·         defines the data management infrastructure

·         supports the client organization during testing

·         mentors and trains the Norkom Technical and Product Consultants

 

Context:

Senior Technical Consultants provide critical knowledge to an implementation by understanding the technical requirements and tools necessary to implement, upgrade, administer, support and extend Norkom applications.

 

Key Accountabilities/Outputs:

·         Defines solution architectures for client implementations/projects

·         Participates in the technical workshops during the initiation and definition stages of project

·         Trouble-shoots environmental issues that arise in the course of deploying/configuring software

·         Takes responsibility for the source control process on projects

·         Deploys Norkom application releases onto the Norkom project environment both in Norkom and on client site when required

·         Performance tunes the Norkom application before delivery to client and during the client’s performance testing phase of project

·         Identifies improvements to our software, processes or supporting documentation

·         Act as escalation point of technical problems that might occur on a project.

·         Defines product requirements and input into future product direction

·         Supports the internal quality assurance cycles to ensure a high quality deliverable

·         Actively participates in internal Knowledge Sharing process to mentor and train junior staff.

 

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Minimum 5 years post graduate experience in technical role – programming, technical/IT support, software installation
  • Able to analyse issues and define high level solutions and provide technical strategy recommendations for clients. Extensive technical trouble shooting skills
  • Previous knowledge of installing software, creating test environments 
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL and in-depth experience of databases such as Oracle, DB2, SQL Server or Teradata and performance tuning at a database level
  • Extensive knowledge of application servers such as Websphere, Weblogic, Apache Tomcat, JBoss
  • Excellent knowledge of Unix (Solaris, AIX, Linux, HPUX)
  • Solid understanding of Java and J2EE architectures
  • Solid knowledge of XML and real time messaging queues and systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a determined approach to own work
  • Ability to adapt rapidly to new technologies and environments
  • Flexibility and ability to take the initiative on issues
  • Ability to manage own time efficiently

Qualifications:

Graduate in IT/Engineering discipline

 

Desired:

Extensive previous technical consultancy experience
